Watching the NFL on TV

Live NFL London 2008If you aren’t lucky enough to get tickets for the Saints v Chargers game at Wembley Stadium, or you cannot make it to London, do not worry. The game will be shown live on Television, with both Sky Sports and the BBC broadcasting the game.

Sky Sports are big supporters of American Football and do an excellent job in providing coverage of the game across the United Kingdom. They show a minimum of six games each week during the regular season as well as providing highlights and news shows.

Sky Sports live coverage of the NFL in the UK is presented by Kevin Cadle and Nick Halling, who are joined in the studio by former NFL players such as Scott McCready. Their in depth and knowledgeable analysis of each game makes watching the games that little bit more enjoyable and as a result, audience figures have risen by over 50% in the past two seasons.

Sky Sports will be showing the New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers game live on Sunday 26th October, as well as providing a build up show which will start at least two hours before kick off.

For the first time, the BBC will also be showing the game, allowing non Sky subscribers to enjoy the action of the NFL in London. The BBC broadcast Super Bowl XLII on 3rd February 2008 on BBC 2 but the Saints v Chargers game will be the first time that the BBC has shown a live regular season game. The action will be split between BBC 2 and BBC 3, with the first half of the game available to terrestrial viewers on BBC 2 with the second half being shown on the digital channel BBC 3.

If you are lucky enough to be heading to the game but intend to relive every moment of the match upon returning home, then BBC 2 will be showing a 90 minutes highlights programme late in the evening on Sunday 26th October. Sky Sports will also be showing highlights and re runs of the game at regular intervals in the week after the game with many people likely to be using Sky+ to record the whole show.
